तोंडाचा कर्करोग हा भारतातील सर्वाधिक आढळणाऱ्या कर्करोगांपैकी एक असून सार्वजनिक आरोग्यासमोरील गंभीर समस्या आहे. तंबाखू, गुटखा, सुपारी, धूम्रपान आणि मद्यपान यांमुळे या कर्करोगाचे प्रमाण मोठ्या प्रमाणात वाढले आहे. जगातील तोंडाच्या कर्करोगाच्या रुग्णांपैकी जवळपास एक-तृतीयांश रुग्ण भारतात आढळतात आणि दरवर्षी सुमारे 1.41 लाख नवीन रुग्णांचे निदान होते.

भारत में मुंह का कैंसर (ओरल कैंसर) सबसे अधिक पाए जाने वाले कैंसरों में से एक है और यह एक गंभीर सार्वजनिक स्वास्थ्य समस्या बन चुका है। तंबाकू, गुटखा, सुपारी (अरेका नट), धूम्रपान और शराब के बढ़ते सेवन के कारण इसके मामलों में लगातार वृद्धि हो रही है। विश्वभर में होने वाले ओरल कैंसर के लगभग एक-तिहाई मामले भारत में पाए जाते हैं तथा हर वर्ष लगभग 1.41 लाख नए मरीजों में मुंह के कैंसर का निदान होता है।

Mouth cancer is one of the most common cancers in India and represents a major public health concern due to the widespread use of tobacco, gutkha, betel nut (areca nut), smoking, and alcohol. India accounts for nearly one-third of the global burden of oral cancer and approximately 141,000 new mouth cancer cases diagnosed every year.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in the United States, excluding skin cancers, and remains the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women after lung cancer. In 2025, an estimated 316,950 women are expected to be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer. Despite significant advances in early detection and treatment, breast cancer is projected to cause approximately 42,170 deaths among women and 510 deaths among men in the United States during 2025.

ओरल सबम्यूकस फाइब्रोसिस (OSMF) मुँह की परत को प्रभावित करने वाली एक दीर्घकालिक (क्रॉनिक), धीरे-धीरे बढ़ने वाली और संभावित रूप से घातक (प्री-कैंसरस) बीमारी है। इसमें शुरुआत में सूजन होती है, जिसके बाद मुँह की श्लेष्मा झिल्ली (म्यूकोसा) के नीचे धीरे-धीरे रेशेदार (फाइब्रस/निशान जैसे) ऊतक बनने लगते हैं। इसके परिणामस्वरूप गाल, होंठ, कोमल तालु (सॉफ्ट पैलेट) और आस-पास के ऊतकों में अकड़न आ जाती है और उनकी लचीलापन कम हो जाता है।
